Training Workers for Initial Firefighting

It is the employer's obligation regardless of the number of employees and the nature of the work they perform. This training can be conducted independently, and there is no requirement to have a risk assessment at work prepared for it. This training obligation is derived from the Occupational Safety Act and the Fire Protection Act.

Training obligations do not apply to individuals professionally engaged in fire protection activities and individuals trained as volunteer firefighters. Individuals under the age of 15 and those over the age of 60 (males) or 55 (females) may also be exempted from training obligations. The responsibility for directing employees for training lies with the responsible person within the legal entity and the professional service.

Training employees for initial fire extinguishing is conducted by an authorized institution

that possesses authorization (consent) from the competent Ministry or State Administration for Protection and Rescue, according to the program prescribed by the Regulation on the Program and Method of Training the Population for the Implementation of Preventive Fire Protection Measures, Firefighting, and the Rescue of People and Property Threatened by Fire. It is mandatory for employees of legal entities and professional services of government bodies, state administration bodies, local government units, and administrative bodies of local government units.

Is training workers for initial fire extinguishing transferable?

Yes. It is sufficient for a person to undergo this training once in their life with any employer, but they must be able to prove it with the appropriate document (certificate of fire protection training). If a person does not possess this document, they will need to undergo the training again.

2Legal obligations

Based on Article 60 of the Occupational Safety Act and in accordance with the provisions of the Fire Protection Act and related sublegal regulations, the employer is obligated to train all employees so that in the event of immediate and serious danger to life and health to which they are or could be exposed, they can take measures or perform procedures in accordance with their knowledge and available technical means to eliminate or reduce the danger, even in cases where they cannot inform the responsible person.
