5. April 2022.What does safety at work say about the new amendments to the Labour Act, i.e. the part related to the regulation of work from home
28. July 2022.The highest number of work injuries in 2020. in the manufacturing industry, construction is only in fourth place, zagreb leads!
Given how statistics for 2021. year have not yet been processed, we bring you an overview of the situation in occupational safety in Croatia in 2020. Total number of reported injuries at work in 2020 there are 14,424 people, 12,404 injuries occurred at the workplace, while 2,020 injuries occurred on the road, according to the Croatian Institute of Public Health – Occupational Health Service. Looking at the percentage, as many as 86% of injuries occurred at the workplace. It is also interesting to note that the total number of injured in Zagreb is 3,337. However, Zagreb has the lowest share of injured “at the workplace”, or 73%, the largest number of injured is in Virovitica-Podravina County, where out of the total number of injuries in that county (221 injuries) as many as 97% occurred at the workplace.
Out of the total number of reported injuries, the largest number of injuries occurred in the City of Zagreb, but the highest injury rate per 1000 employees (in relation to the total number of injuries) is in Osijek-Baranja County and is 13.97. Taking into account the reported injuries at the workplace, the largest number of injuries occurred again in the City of Zagreb, and the highest injury rate per 1000 employees at the workplace in Osijek-Baranja County is 12.39.
Men are leading the way
Of the total number of reported men, there were 8721 and women 5615. The highest number of injuries occurs in the age group of 51 – 60 years (3642), while it is immediately followed by the number of injured groups of 18-30 (3507). Interesting is the fact that the majority (93%) of those reported, were trained to work in a safe way, just as it is interesting to note that as many as 80% used personal protective equipment at the time of the injury. Given these available numbers, we can conclude that awareness of safety at work as such is slowly but surely becoming more and more prevalent, although the figures we bring confirm that there is still room for improvement.
The figure of 3,319 injured in the manufacturing industry, 2,124 injured in the wholesale and retail trade sector and repair of vehicles and motorcycles, 1,535 injured in the health and social care sector, clearly show us the directions in which we need to step up awareness of occupational safety and employee care in general.
Workers are exposed to various dangers and risks in their workplaces on a daily basis, so there is always room for improvement when it comes to health and safety at work, and to emphasize how important workplace safety with its characteristics is for the preservation of physical and mental health.
Millions of injuries, illnesses and deaths occur in workplaces around the world every year. With risk control in the design and instruction phase, we can significantly reduce and prevent injuries. Especially if we actively involve employees in drafting and deciding on health and safety procedures, they are more likely to understand the need for them, given that they will thus better understand the dangers and risks and be committed to following them.
