Working from home has become a new everyday life, and when you add up other people’s stories on the subject it sounds like they’re fighting a battle with themselves. Have you thought about safety at work the moment you found out that you will be working from home, ergonomic conditions, the possibility of agreeing with your employer to keep your workplace healthy (business computer, chair, desk, other office aids)? You probably didn’t, and that’s why I decided to write a few tips that could increase the efficiency of your work from home.
Adapt ergonomic conditions as much as possible to those in your workplace, in order to avoid syndromes and diseases of the musculoskeletal system caused by improper computer work.
In the period when we work from home, it is very important to preserve the work habits we have acquired, and waking up in the morning is one of the most basic. We are habit-prone people, and morning rituals help us to successfully prepare for the upcoming day such as showering, short physical activity, breakfast, coffee… It doesn’t matter, you know what works best for you. It’s important not to stay in your pajamas. Just because you work from home doesn’t mean you have to skip your rituals!
Using a computer when working in bed can leave bad consequences on the locomotor system, and such a habit can cause consequences of poor sleep quality, so we do ourselves more harm than good. The environment of the home can make it difficult for us to concentrate and focus. Determine a place to use only for work and nothing else.
When our own home becomes a place to work, our family members can more easily break the necessary concentration for work. In order for this not to happen, make a distribution of household tasks and let them know about the time when it is important for you to focus on work, and when you will be available for them.
We humans are not robots and hardly anyone can work 8 hours in a row without a break, so it is very important to determine the working time and the time of rest. It is best to take a break for 1 – 1.5 hours of work for 15–20 minutes.
Just because we are physically distant from others doesn’t mean we can’t hear or see each other. Not only is it important to maintain contacts with work colleagues, but it helps us fight isolation and loneliness. Take advantage of the technology!
If you were thinking of simply “mulitittati” between work and social networks, TV and the like because no one controls us, you are mistaken. Any interruption in work can impair your concentration for the next 25 minutes!
Are you most productive in the morning? Afternoon? Night? Working from home gives us opportunities to adapt work to our own pace.
Various applications such as Asana, Clickup, Basecamp, Freedcamp, Trello.
When we work from home it is easy to break the boundary between business and private, because we are on “private” ground. Working from home does not mean that you have to “break away” from work, so it is important to know when you are turning off your laptop and devoting yourself to your loved ones. When you’re done, you’re done!
Although it is the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not forbidden to leave the house. Physical activity has a positive effect on our body in general and productivity at work (a walk of a few minutes can help you come up with a solution to some kind of business problem in which you are stuck). Of course, when spending time outdoors, we should avoid large groups of people, keep physical distance, and in case of need have a face mask.
